Sept. 1-8 "07 Speedweek Report"

"Slot Car Speed Week '07". What a week it was! Where do we begin? The proverbial roller coaster as they say!! Starting out at Calistoga Speedway we got in a preliminary race for kid's won by Ryan Williams before, due to unfortunate circumstances beyond our control slot car racing at Calistoga Speedway got OUTLAWED!!! You had to be there to believe it!!! The rest of the "King of Calistoga" slot car race had to be canceled but not before former USAC National Champion, Hall of Fame race driver, "The Rim Rider", Chuck Gurney, with a minimal number of warm up laps, appeared about ready to take all of us to slot car racing school! Sadly we will not be returning to Calistoga Speedway. Next year perhaps we will finally get a chance to go to "BURNING MAN" instead!!!

Winning THE biggest race of his career , The biggest race of the year, THE ONE he has been waiting for, ONE for the record books and a very popular win, many time preliminary feature winner, 1/2 of MM Racing Photos and one of our very own, hard charging outlaw slot car racer Mark Sublett put his camera aside long enough to blow the rest of the field into the weeds!!! What a great race it was, with brother Matt hammering Mark back and forth early on for the lead like the two old adversaries that they are. Young Chelsy Hickson, Thursday's sensational feature winner also got up there with the leaders and looked like a contender. Great job Chelsy! As the laps clicked off and the rest of the field faded it was Mark finding the fast way around a tacky and fast racetrack. Near lap 30 Mark in the #14 Tim Green car took command of the race and lapped the second and third place cars then finished up with a flawless run to the checked flag in the remaining laps to take the 40 lap feature win!!! Finishing second with a phenomenal run in the 3DB slot car and a last minute entry was youngster Adam Walters!!! Super run Adam! Perhaps you should be running a full size race car!!! Third place was track Master Mind Steve Fuller.

Mark is a great winner, a great slot car racer and a great representative of the sport and keep taking those great racing photos along with brother Matt. It would not be possible to run the Big Daddy’s Race Center events without the dedicated help and effort that Mark and Matt contribute to our sport. They are both superstars of outlaw slot car racing and continue to look forward to some of the real race drivers out there giving them a race along with the race fans and the kids.How about giving it to them next year at “Slot Car Speed Week" if not sooner? I think they will be ready to race you!!! Thank’s guys for your never ending support.

Other highlights of “speedweek” included feature wins by Matt on Wednesday, our first lady feature event winner on Thursday, youngster Chelsy Hickson, Jr. feature winner on Friday by “The Other Wild Child”, ” little Jack” Hickson, Chelsey’s younger brother, and Jr. Feature winner Jacob Steakman. Jr. We also were pleased to have real race drivers, up and coming Kyle Larson and Mason Moore stop by for hot laps along with future star and local hotshoe Robert Ballou. Outlaw race drivers Randy “The Hurricane” Hannigan and Justin Henderson were also mixing it up with the kids and really gave them a thrill! Look for the clip on Speed Channel next week! The best, we saved for last. The people of John Padjen Motorsports, especially long time race official and staff member Pat Ponzo went way out of their way to “roll out the red carpet” and arranged for us to be included in the official autograph session on Saturday afternoon in the large open air pavilion and become a part of the official proceedings. We wish to express a very, very sincere thank you to National Motorsports Promoter of The Year, John Padjen and all the folks at John Padjen Motorsports. We are truly very grateful for this opportunity to make this event the premier event in the nation for 1/32 scale outlaw slot cars and plan on making this event even bigger and better next year!!! We believe it is safe to say that “outlaw slot car racing” has a new home at Silver Dollar Speedway!!!
